Building more than a space

The project

The Youth Space Builder is a partnership between Allstar, Cederstone Construction, and the local community.

Since September, pupils from Parkside School have led the journey.

What they did:

• Worked through a structured 12-stage process

• Engaged local young people to understand real needs

• Designed a space shaped by their community

• Built it from the ground up

  
  

  

Learning by doing

Young people didn’t just design ideas — they developed practical skills.

Hands-on experience included:

• Bricklaying

• Basic electrics

• Construction methods

• Safe working practices

They also built softer capabilities:

• Teamwork

• Communication

• Problem-solving

• Responsibility

The learning was applied in real time, with visible outcomes.

Recognised achievement

Alongside the build, participants completed their Arts Award, recognising:

• Creative input into the design

• Reflection on their learning

• Contribution to a real community project
