Mental Health Awareness Through Creative Expression at Take The Mic!

ree

Femi here, a Creative Skills Trainee at Allstar. I had the incredible opportunity to attend and perform at the Take The Mic event at Bradford College, organized by Bradford College and Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership.

The night kicked off with a powerful speech about the importance of being a mental health advocate. It really resonated with me – it's so crucial to talk about our emotional well-being and break down the stigma surrounding mental health.

My colleague Lauren then took the stage and delivered a beautiful performance of songs that perfectly tied into the theme of the event.

Spoken word poetry then took centre stage! Several young people performed, using their words to amplify the message of creative expression.

Then, it was my turn! I stepped up and performed two of my new songs, both focusing on the importance of speaking up and sharing your emotions.

What an incredible night! Take The Mic provided a platform for young people like myself to express our feelings through creative outlets. It was fantastic to see such a great turnout, and the positive energy in the room was infectious.

This event truly highlighted the power of combining mental health awareness with creative expression. It was inspiring, supportive and a great platform for young people to express themselves something we are really passionate about at Allstar.
