History In The Making: Shared Stories 2025

Allstar Admin

Allstar is proud to be involved in the "History In The Making" programme, funded by Historic England. This project is about spotlighting overlooked music and cultural histories within the Bradford district, driven by the perspectives of young, underrepresented musicians.

We began by consulting our Youth Music Leaders, who expressed a strong interest in exploring significant, yet often under-appreciated, music venues, heritage sites, and cultural spaces that have shaped Bradford’s identity. The project aims to create original music tracks, music videos, and audio interviews, using QR codes to link this digital content to the physical spaces they represent.

Current activity includes collaborative "found sound" recording sessions with our NOVA group, which focuses on female and marginalised genders, creating a sonic connection to Bradford. We're also conducting one-on-one sessions with spoken word artists, who are developing new pieces inspired by locations such as the Wool Exchange/Waterstones, The Common Space, and Bolton Woods Community Centre. Additionally, one-to-one sessions with young musicians have taken place, where they are producing music and tracks linked to their favourite sites within the city.

We are preparing to begin work with Belle Vue Girls Academy and music students from Shipley College, who will be exploring and creating content related to their own favoured spaces.

This project prioritises the involvement of young people in the creation of content linked to heritage sites and spaces that hold personal significance for them.

"History In The Making" is about providing a platform for young people to engage with their city's cultural heritage in a meaningful way. By using contemporary creative tools, we're aiming to make these historical spaces accessible and relevant to a younger audience.
