Safer Internet Day 2025: Navigating the Digital Landscape

Allstar Admin

Safer Internet Day 2025 and the focus was on "Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online." It's a vital topic in today's digital world

At All Star, we're dedicated to empowering young people and adults to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. Thanks to the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership, we worked directly with students in Years 5 to 10 in Bradford schools. Through workshops, one-to-one support, and group sessions, we explored the realities of online risks and equip young people with the skills to protect themselves. The statistics are clear: online safety is a growing concern for parents and adults alike. While the internet offers incredible opportunities for learning and connection, it also presents potential harms. It's vital that we address these challenges head-on.

This year's Safer Internet Day theme, "Too good to be true?", highlights the prevalence of online scams. From phishing emails to fraudulent websites, scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Young people need to be aware of these tactics and know how to identify them.

Our work with young people has shown us that they are already taking steps to protect themselves online. They're using privacy settings, managing their online identities, and reporting suspicious activity. This proactive approach is encouraging, but we must continue to provide them with the knowledge and support they need.

To complement our work in schools, we've developed a free online resource for parents and carers, "Online Safety for Parents and Carers" provides valuable insights and practical advice in a concise 14-minute format. It reinforces the messages we deliver in the classroom and encourages open communication about online safety at home.

Safer Internet Day is a collective effort. It's an opportunity for educators, parents, and young people to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities of the digital age
